Stress

As a clinical hypnotherapist, I’m always being asked,  if I may be able to aid weight loss, ‘cure’ a phobia, rid someone of their excruciating fear of public speaking or help them to sleep.  In the majority of cases the answer is an emphatic ‘yes.’  Hypnotherapy, although not a panacea for all ills, is much more widely accepted as being an alternative  therapy offering beneficial change without the use of chemical drugs.   However, if I could pinpoint one area which, although not necessarily the cause and often a symptom in its own right, certainly exacerbates any presenting issue, it has to be that of stress.  With so much pressure on modern day living, expectations of certain standards, financial worries, loss, relationship issues,  to name but a few, is it any wonder many people suffer from stress and its close relative anxiety?

Stress can then take our sleep patterns, eating behaviours and phobias and either grows them to cataclysmic proportions or disables our ability to get a handle on ourselves and create lasting change.   As part of any therapy , dealing with stress, either head on, or as an adjunct to a presenting difficulty, is a must.  By its very nature, the relaxed state of hypnosis certainly encourages feelings of being ‘more at ease’ after and in the days following a session.  Not only that, work specific to encouraging people to be more ‘present’  more ‘now’ if you like, certainly aids coping mechanisms and facilitates beneficial change.

Too many of us are either living in the past or the future, mulling over what has been or what may be, paying little attention to what really is.  Being generally at ease is a birth right and one far too few of us seek to achieve yet it is there, available and for the taking we just need to look in the right places.
